Natural timber

Pressure-treated timber naturally changes as it seasons outdoors. Knots, colour variation, small splits, checking and movement can occur and are normal characteristics of the material. If left untreated the colour will gradually weather towards silver-grey.

Why Churnet Valley?

Our furniture is eco-friendly because we only use wood from Scandinavian forests that are managed responsibly by the Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC). This means that when trees are cut down, more are planted in their place. We also take the extra step of having our wood pressure-treated to protect it against weather for many years. Most garden furniture today is made to last only three or four years, but our products are built to last almost four times longer, which helps protect the planet's natural resources.

All of our products are handmade. Since they are made from natural wood, you might see some small cracks or splits. This happens because wood can lose moisture in warm, dry weather or when exposed to strong sunlight. In cooler, wetter weather, the wood takes in moisture again, which can help reduce these cracks. These natural changes don't affect the quality of our products. We do our best to smooth out splinters and rough edges, but we might not catch every single one.
